New in EstimatorXpress: Quick estimating prompts

Our new quick estimating prompts will help you produce construction estimates easily and accurately. At HBXL we want to make producing a construction estimate as straightforward as possible – while giving you everything you need to do the job properly. We call it ‘clever-easy’. And our brand-new version of EstimatorXpress Plus and Premium 2024 makes compiling an estimate for a renovation, extension, loft conversion, garage conversion, and new build, even easier than before.

  • New speedy job creation process
  • New option to add a collection of estimating calculators into a job template – to help you to remember to add all of the additional calculators needed for your house/extension, or to get a full list of estimating calculators required for your loft or garage conversion
  • Plus collections for estimating renovations in rooms, such as a bathroom or kitchen refit, or a room renovation.

There are well over 700 estimating components in a new build for instance, comprising all your materials, labour, plant, sundries and sub-contractor costs. So, you could be forgiven for being overwhelmed by everything you need to include in your estimate.

The software already thinks of everything you’ll need – from the tipper for your site spoil removal, the required number of plastic round downpipes, PIR insulation board,  plasterboard tape, and Cut Clasp nails, to the white silicone sealant, self-levelling compound, contract emulsion and the labour to do the work… you get the idea.

Now, thanks to the October 2024 update, it visually guides you through the steps with useful prompts, getting you to the relevant calculators faster.

NEW: Easy-to-access renovation estimating calculators

Choose your renovation project. – kitchen refit, bathroom refit, flat roof renovation – there’s a huge choice.

You can quickly get to an estimating template for all the typical renovation/refurbishment projects you undertake (you can create estimates for more bespoke renovations projects manually too). So that’s:

  • Kitchen refit
  • External renovation
  • Bathroom refit
  • Pitched roof renovation
  • Utility room renovation
  • Flat roof renovation
  • Room renovation
  • Tarmac driveway
  • Block paved driveway
  • Garden landscaping

Once you’ve chosen your renovation project, you’re prompted with a list of what items you may need to price up the job. You simply tick what you need, and they’ll be added into the estimate.

The collection of suggested estimating calculators include:

  • Demolition
  • Walls & Ceilings
  • Flooring
  • Fitting Out

Just taking one, ‘demolition’, EstimatorXpress asks if you’re going to be removing floor screed, demolishing walls, stripping out the internal features, or hacking plaster from walls. When you hover on a calculator, it gives you further information. As you can see in the photo above, it explains that the ‘Hacking plaster from walls’ estimating calculator will calculate the following items:

  • Removal of plaster from the walls
  • Removal of spoil from site
  • Associated plant and labour.

You give the software the dimensions and the calculator will work out all the costs associated with this task. Clever eh?

NEW: Collection of ‘often overlooked’ estimating calculators

You’re probably comfortable with remembering what you need to cost when it comes to the main structure of the building – the walls, floors and roof etc. But there are a few aspects of the project that could be over-looked – which you may have to fund from your profit if they don’t make it into the quote.

The useful estimating prompts on the less obvious parts of a project:

  • Site establishment (insurance, security, health & safety)
  • Site clearance and top soil
  • Site strip
  • Scaffolding
  • Site mix concrete
  • Fire stops
  • Foul and Surface drainage
  • Temporary house and drive protection
  • Travel costs
  • Sundry plant
  • Cleaning

You just click the tick box and the software automatically adds it into the estimate. The calculators have always been in EstimatorXpress, now they’re presented to you at the start – so no chance of over-looking them.

New: Quick route to specific loft conversion calculators

You’ve been asked to price a loft conversion – maybe a Dormer, Hip, Mansard, L-shaped, or Double dormer – now you can select your specific type of loft conversion, and instantly get a pop-up window giving you the items you’re most likely to need. Estimating has never been so easy!
