How long will your building company last? Watch this recording
Monday, June 15th, 2026
Can you see your business going from strength to strength? Can you imagine a long-lasting, profitable future? Do you want more?
Some builders are just trying to get through the week.
Others are looking further ahead – and want to make a go of it – despite the best efforts of politics and economics to derail the whole construction industry!
They want better control of their projects, their profit, their workload, their paperwork and their future. They want a building business that feels less reactive and more resilient.
And there are plenty of building companies, up and down the UK, achieving exactly that.
That’s why Joanna Mulgrew, Managing Director of HBXL, wanted to share her findings – having spoken to many, many builders.
The topic was ‘Why successful building companies are better protected from failure’.
The conversation looked at thriving businesses. It’s not like they never face problems. Every builder does. And that’s the whole point. Because they have stronger systems, better information and more confidence in the decisions they make – they can withstand the obstacles they, and you, will inevitably encounter.
Some of the key points
In the session, Joanna and Nick discuss the practical areas that make a real difference to construction businesses, including:
- pricing work properly and protecting profit
- understanding overheads, margins and cashflow
- keeping projects better organised
- reducing the risk of disputes with clearer paperwork
- staying on top of health and safety responsibilities
- building a business that is less dependent on guesswork
- using digital tools to make better decisions
They talked about the everyday pressures building company owners face, and the steps that can help them run a stronger, more sustainable business.
Why it matters
A successful building company is not built on hard work alone.
Hard work matters. Experience matters. Good workmanship matters. But without accurate pricing, clear processes, proper documentation and a good grip on the numbers, even good builders can find themselves exposed.
The builders who are best protected tend to know what a job should cost, what profit they need to make, what risks need covering and what needs managing before the job even starts.
That is where the right software, training and support can make such a difference.

It is a useful session for any builder who wants to step back from the day-to-day pressure and think seriously about how to build a more profitable, better protected business.
