Free “Groundworker Skills” – Skills Bootcamp

The Groundworker Skills Bootcamp, free to unemployed and self-employed, is suitable for new entrants and those working as labourers who are looking to upskill. In addition to the tickets that can be obtained, the Japanese Knotweed Awareness module equips the learner with the ability to identify and treat this plant which causes widespread damage to the infrastructure (it can grow anywhere as it has no predators in the UK). Learners will also have the opportunity to set out and measure accurately, and use drones to identify leaks.

The Skills Bootcamp in Groundworker Skills is being run in conjunction with New Anglia LEP, the West of England Combined Authority, Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and CPJ Education, and is funded by the Department for Education. The Skills Bootcamp provides a blend of technical skills and industry awareness. It’s part of the Government’s Lifetime Skills Guarantee, helping everyone gain skills for life. The learner has the support of a tutor throughout.

Admission requirements
- 19+ years of age
- Pass a Fingerprint Drugs test and Breathalyser Alcohol test
- Full Driving Licence is an advantage
- Windows laptop/computer
- Broadband access
- Video access i.e. Microsoft Teams/Zoom meetings with course tutor
- Construction experience preferred but not essential.
Cost of Groundworker Skills Bootcamp
The training on the Groundworker Skills Bootcamp can be free for the learner!
- If you’re unemployed or self-employed the course is fully funded by the government!
- Small to medium sized employers, who have roles for their employees or wish them to upskill, pay 10% of the training cost – the rest is funded by the government:
- £348.50 inc. VAT (10% of the £3485 inc. VAT training cost).
- Large employers (250+), who have roles for their employees, pay 30% of the training cost – the rest is funded by the government:
- £1045.50 inc. VAT (30% of the £3485 inc. VAT training cost).
Course location/duration
- 66 hours of guided learning
- In person for the majority of the course – location to be advised – near you
- Remote online for the Japanese Knotweed awareness module
- 10 hours of independent learning – revision material provided online

Course period: w/c 30.1.23 – w/c 27.2.23
